2013 $1 Australian: Kangaroo Map Shaped Coin
The Kangaroo is the third design in the Australian Map Shaped Coin Series. The iconic kangaroo is one of the most symbolic animals of Australia being well adapted to hop great distances in a place that often has scarce food and water or to evade the prolific predators in its natural habitat. This coin is uniquely shaped like the map of Australia.
The obverse features the Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley and the words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2013 1 DOLLAR". The reverse depicts the struck design of a kangaroo against a coloured sunset background highlighting Picnic Rocks in Tasmania.
The inscription "Kangaroo" appears above the kangaroo as well as the words "1 oz 999 Silver" with the year 2013 below it and the "P" mint mark in the bottom left corner. This coin has a limited mintage of 6,000 worldwide.
