2016 100g Silver Ultra High Relief Cook Islands - St Peters Basilica Coin
Inspired by one of the largest churches ever built as well as one of the holiest sites in Christendom, this stunning new issue by the Cook Islands is a 100-gram 999 silver coin with a detailed three-dimensional effect based on the four layers of the design. It features St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City; the worldwide mintage is limited to only 999 pieces.
The traditional obverse of a Cook Islands coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.
The coin impresses with its numerous engraved details on the antique finish surface. Thanks to the famous ‘4-layer’ minting technique, the deep concave reverse has been created - a superb 3D representation of the inside of the temple dome. St. Peter's Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter - the apostle who is considered the first pope - was crucified and buried. Originally founded by Constantine in 324, St. Peter's Basilica was rebuilt in the 16th century by Renaissance masters including Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini.
