Odysseus 2026 Niue 2 oz Silver Antiqued Gilded Colorized Coin

Ten years of siege ended with a carpenter's idea.

The first issue of the new Odyssey series from T&S Coin, struck in 2 ounces of .999 silver at 45 mm in antique finish with selective gilding. Worldwide mintage of 500 pieces.

The Scene

This is not a battle coin, and that is the point. Odysseus is shown seated and still, chin on fist, in the moment before the idea becomes a plan. In front of him sits a map of the Troad with ΤΡΟΙΑ and ΙΛΙΟΝ inscribed on it, a scale model of the city's walls, a quill and inkpot, and a wooden horse on wheels no larger than a toy.

Behind him the real thing: Troy's fortifications on the headland, the Greek camp in rows of tents, ships drawn up on the beach. Ten years of all of it. He is not looking at any of that. He is looking at the model.

Selective gilding carries the armour, the lion-head pauldron, the bracers and the Corinthian helmet resting beside him. The red cloak is the only other colour on the coin. Everything else, the walls, the ships, the tents, the horse itself, stays in muted antiqued silver, so the eye goes where his does. A Greek key meander runs the full border.

The Man

Homer calls him polytropos, the man of many turns, and polymetis, of many counsels. Among the Greek commanders at Troy he was neither the strongest nor the fastest; Achilles and Ajax were both. What Odysseus had was the thing the Iliad keeps circling back to, which is that a siege is not won by the better fighter but by the one who finds the door.

And the horse was only half of it. The other half was Sinon, left behind to be captured, who had to lie convincingly enough that the Trojans would drag the thing inside themselves. Odysseus did not just design the trick. He designed the Trojans' part in it.

The Obverse

The Public Seal of Niue beneath a royal crown, framed in deep baroque scrollwork over a cross-hatched field. Inscribed ODYSSEUS, 2026, 2 OZ., AG 999, 5 DOLLARS and the Niue motto ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI, with the T&S Coin mint signature.
