The Story

Seven Seals of the Apocalypse: Black Horse 2026 Niue 3 oz Silver Coin

"A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine."

The third seal, struck by the Carpathian Mint in Poland in 3 ounces of Ag999 at 60 mm, in an antique finish with gilding, colour and an inset wax seal. Niue legal tender at 7 dollars, with a worldwide mintage of just 333 pieces.

The Third Seal

When the Lamb opens the third seal, the rider of the Black Horse comes out carrying a pair of scales. He is usually read as Famine, but the text is stranger and more precise than that: the voice from among the four beasts does not announce starvation, it announces prices. A day's wages for a day's grain. The oil and the wine, the luxuries, are to be left untouched.

It is a vision of scarcity engineered rather than suffered, and the sculpt reads it that way. The rider is armoured and unhurried, the scales held up in gilded relief like a verdict. Behind him stand temple fronts and domed civic buildings. Below him the crowd is not fleeing: they are seated, waiting, hollow-faced, hands out. A figure in the foreground reaches toward an empty bowl.

The Strike

Carpathian Mint have pushed the relief hard here. The horse's caparison and the rider's armour carry dense engraved scrollwork, the cloak folds stand clear of the field, and the faces in the crowd are individually modelled at a scale you need a loupe to properly read.

Two things sit outside the silver. The scales are gilded, the only bright element on an otherwise antiqued surface. And set into the field at the left is a genuine inset seal in black, struck with the balance motif, as though the seal has just been broken off the scroll.

The Obverse

The Public Seal of Niue beneath a royal crown, inscribed NIUE 2026, 7 DOLLARS and Ag 999. Around it sit all seven seals of Revelation rendered as wax impressions: the crowned bow, the sword, the scales, the scythe and skull, the weeping eye, the falling stars, and the angel with trumpets. The third, the scales, is picked out in black to mark this issue. The field behind is cracked and scorched earth, with meteors falling across it.
